ADVANCED NEUROANATOMY

In this three-hour tutorial we will develop students' knowledge of neuroanatomy, recapping on gross brain structures before studying  brain circuits involved in complex behaviours such as the superior and inferior longitudinal fasciculi, arcuate fasciculus and uncinate fasciculus. The middle section of the tutorial involves an interactive sheep brain dissection in which key brain structures will be identified and the brain will be passed to students. We will explore the brain's vascular system together with structures such the claustrum, ventricular system, midbrain structures and brain stem. We will conclude with a consideration of cellular and macroscale human connectomics, introducing neural hubs and the correspondence between functional connectivity and anatomical connectivity.
